A Little Bit About Grace…

Grace DiBartolo known as “Gracie” started with United Airlines in 1986, and got involved with the IAM early in the merger transition. She would often express her willingness and desire to help those coming into the union better understand their rights and obligations. She truly cared for her co-workers and felt she could make a difference. She never declined to take a call, listen to the concerns of others and help in any way she could. She was passionate about fairness and equality for the agents and fought tirelessly to protect their rights.
Those who knew her away from work, know that she approached family life much the same way. She was always there for her family, and loved them unconditionally. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for any of them. She was the glue that kept them together. And, whenever the family was together, her smile said everything you needed to know about how she felt. She taught us all how to live life and what was most important.
She would often express her regret for not finishing college. Her eventual return to school was an answer to that regret that she carried for many years. She first completed her Associates Degree at Bergen Community College. She then pursued a Bachelors Degree at Thomas Edison State University. And, finally, she decided to pursue her Masters Degree in Labor Relations from the State University of New York. She had the capacity to set a goal, and pursue it to the end. If you wanted her to achieve something, just tell her she couldn’t do it. That was the way she lived her life. Her enthusiasm and ability to work and study throughout her fifties was an inspiration to all of us.
